Chief Financial Officer
OVERVIEW: Under the direction of President, the Chief Financial Officer of the university is responsible for
providing executive level direction and management oversight for financial planning, budgeting and budget
analysis, accounting and business operations, financial controls and reporting, risk management and insurance
and purchasing of contracts. developing, implementing and monitoring educational policies and academic
programs. This includes program review and improvement, assessment of student learning and advancement of
student success, budget development and program and curriculum development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as treasurer/custodian of the university’s funds.
• Oversight of all aspects of the university’s accounting operations to include all transactions related to the
general ledger, receivables, payables, payroll and financial reporting.
• Oversight and management of tax planning and compliance with all required federal, local, payroll,
property and all applicable taxes.
• Develop, implement, and monitor accounting policies and procedures to ensure records are maintained in
accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures.
• Analyze the university’s financial state and submit reports on such to senior leadership.
• Plan and coordinate efforts with managers who have fiscal oversight of their respective departments.
• Serve as financial advisor to the President and executive level staff.
• Leads the budget process and the development of the annual operating budget of the university.
• Assist the President and other administrators in gathering, collating, and analyzing data relative to the
financial operations of the university.
• Responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of financial information to the Board, the President, and
other stakeholders.
• Responsible for risk assessment and securing adequate insurance for the university.
• Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Remain current on financial audit best practices.
• Coordinate and oversee the contracts for the university’s auxiliary services.
• Collaborate with the President to ensure the achievement of the university’s financial goals.
• Serve as a key member of the President’s executive leadership team.
• Other duties as assigned or become evident.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• The employee must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull approximately 20 pounds.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to spend a considerable amount
of time using their hands to write, handle, control, and/or feel objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• This position requires the individual to work in a normal office setting.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages, trains, directs and motivates staff to include performance management.
• Plans and organizes workload and/or assignments of staff.
• Issues written and oral instructions and examines work for accuracy to include conformance to policies and
procedures.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
• As needed to conduct official university business.
SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in financial planning
