Webber’s Men’s Beach Volleyball Team Wins Championship
Babson Park, FL (November 11, 2024) - The Webber International Men's Beach Volleyball team has been crowned the AVCA Men's Beach National Champions. After finishing in second place in last season’s tournament the team took home the title after a dominating performance. The two-day tournament was held on Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9 at John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Alabama.
Webber defeated Stevenson University, Erskine College, and Liberty University in the tournament.
Webber’s Coach Luis Campo stated "I want to congratulate all our players, the five competing teams and our sixth substitute team for their outstanding performance and teamwork.”
Saturday's pool play bracket had the Warriors facing off against Erskine first, which the Warriors won 5-0. Carson Barnes and Ayden Keeter won the first court 21-14 and 21-17. Tanner Best and JT Corr took court two 21-1 9 and 21-19. Joao Vitor Lima and Dylan McClung won the third court 21-18 and 21-12. Janis Dobelis and Joan Galmes took the fourth court 21-17 and 21-14. Dallas Hitchins and Christian Kinlaw took the last court 21-17 and 21-14.
The Warriors’ second dual against Liberty ended in the same result, a 5-0 victory for the Warriors. Webber had it's most trouble against Stevenson, however, taking the victory by a 3-2 margin. Barnes and Keeter won at the number one spot 21-11 and 21-11. Best and Corr were taken down at the two spot, but Lima and McClung and Dobelis and Galmes were each successful at the three and four spots, winning 21-18 and 21-15 for the three, and 21-8 and 21-11 at the four. Hitchins and Kinlaw sitting in the five spot were also taken down.
Sunday morning was more of the same for the Warriors as they had a clean sweep of Liberty 5-0 in the semifinals. Webber faced off against Erskine again in the finals, sweeping 5-0 with scores of 21-11 and 24-22, 21-18 and 21-19, 21-13 and 21-14, 21-18 and 13-11, and 21-18 and 19-14. This is the Warriors first Men's AVCA National Championship.
Coach Campo went on to state “I also want to take this opportunity to thank the Athletics Department for their tremendous support and for coordinating all the logistics throughout the tournament. Finally, a big thank you to the families of our players for their constant encouragement and support of the program."
